Our History
Economic Development was one of the programs that was engaged by Black Lake First Nation in 1970s. At that time, this approach was new in the community. The funding received was used to support community members with hunting, fishing, and trapping. In 1980s, Black Lake Development Corporation was formed. This is when the first Board and Management was developed to create services, investments, job creation & training, and other business opportunities for the community. The former Leadership and Board of Directors decided to start a holding company, a separate business entity that is owned by Black Lake First Nation. In 2008, Black Lake Ventures was established. It officially opened the doors to its new location on May 7, 2018. Today, Black Lake Ventures has investments in four companies, maintains leases to Northwest Co., RCMP Housing, BLV Building and manages projects around the community including our community garden, radio station, line-cutting, Saskpower projects etc.
